U.S. Department of State K12 Certification Crash Test Videos

Infrastructure Defense Technologies performed our barrier K12 crash testing at Karco Engineering LLC located in Adelanto, California in April of 2004.

A representative of the U.S. Department of State audited the crash test. His job was to certify the test met the required test standards and that the ultimate results of the crash test could be certified to meet one of three Department of State standards, K4, K8, and K12.

K12 is the most difficult certification and it specifies that a barrier must stop a 15,000 lb. truck traveling at 50 mph and impacting the barrier at a 90° degree angle. The bed of the test truck cannot penetrate beyond 36 inches into the front of the tested barrier.

In the testing performed by Karco, the truck’s front axle did not pass the front of the Metalith barrier! Subsequent to the testing, the Department of State certified the Metalith as a K12 compliant barrier.
